Success Story: Mo Mambo Italian Restaurant, Eastbourne UK

Jul 26 2010

Had to share this success – one of my clients is an Italian restaurant in Eastbourne UK. They had a new website that was decent but didn’t compete against more established websites in their industry. They were also fighting for some pretty competitive search terms “italian restaurant eastbourne”, “restaurant eastbourne”, “best restaurant eastbourne”.

They were ranking on the bottom of page 2 or even page 3 and 4 of results- effectively killing their web traffic.

Two weeks ago, they hired me as a marketing consultant. I spent time reorganizing their website, optimizing keywords, and focusing in on their story. Now, as of last night, they rank #1 in their target keyword and #2-#4 in every other search.

No tricks, no gimmicks, just hard work and innovation.

Marketing your story

Jul 26 2010

All too often, business owners make a simple mistake- marketing the features of their product/service instead of focusing on telling a story. Nifty gizmos and “industry leading” features have become the bread and butter of the internet. In order to set yourself apart from the competition, you’ll need more.

Here’s a simple test: take all of the text on your website and delete the name of your company. Then insert the name of your competitors. If the text still makes sense, your marketing isn’t working.
Solution: focus on what make you different and tell a compelling story. How’d you get into your business? Why do you enjoy it? What’s most challenging? Today, the most valuable commodities on the internet are interactivity and personal connection.
There are a couple of businesses in Olympia that excel at this kind of marketing- Harlequin Productions, The Reef, and Whitney Design are great examples. I especially recommend checking out Harlequins Olympia advertising- their ads always tell great stories and are fun to read. Marketing or advertising questions? Not sure where to start? Contact me!

Urban Marketing: Building Community and Business

Jul 14 2010

How does urbanism affect social marketing?
-
In the early 1900’s, Americans were sick of living in densely populated, largely impoverished urban cities like New York, Boston, and Chicago. Poor living conditions were magnified by bad economics and cities became unlivable. The idea of an idyllic country home was a foreign and idealistic dream for many Americans. Looking through magazines from the 30′s and 40′s is interesting- they begin to lean heavily on images of plantation style homes with wrap-around porches and several acres of land. It must’ve seemed a world apart from New York during the Depression.

Facebook Marketing Tutorial Video

Jul 02 2010

My job at Chirohosting involves creating social marketing strategies for chiropractors, who often have wildly varying technology skills. This video is one of the half-dozen or so tutorials I’ve been putting together. The strategy is simple: provide valuable resources for free. Any feedback would be appreciated!
